Flautist Georgia Browne began her musical life in Perth, Western Australia where she was given the opportunity to try replica historical flutes. Following an inspiring week of masterclasses with Kate Clark, Georgia decided to make the pilgrimage to The Netherlands to specialise in historical flute performance with Kate and later Barthold Kuijken. Just after graduating with distinction from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, Georgia was launched onto the European concert scene in style, with an exciting performance of a Vivaldi flute concerto for distinguished guests and live radio broadcast at the Palazzo Quirinale in Rome.

Since that momentous debut in 2004, Georgia has been in demand as a soloist, orchestral musician and guest tutor across Europe and beyond. She is currently principal flute with Ensemble Pygmalion (Raphaël Pichon) with whom she has had stand-out solos at the Paris Philharmonie, the Opera Comique in Paris and at the Aix en Provence opera festival. In the UK she regularly appears in concert with Arcangelo (Jonathan Cohen), the Dunedin Consort (John Butt), The English Concert (Harry Bickett), La Nuova Musica (David Bates) and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Invitations from further afield include guest appearances with the Australian Chamber Orchestra (Richard Tognetti) and with ensembles in Iceland, Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Georgia.

Her album of flute music by Carl Friedrich Abel with Icelandic chamber ensemble Nordic Affect is one of a number of recordings she has featured on. More recent recordings include the Brahms Requiem, Bach’s St Matthew Passion and B minor Mass, with the latter being named Gramophone Music’s Album of the Year 2025.

An enthusiastic educator, Georgia has taught at the Universities of Southampton and Birmingham and at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She is regularly invited to give masterclasses in the wonderful places her touring life takes her.

Georgia Browne est flûtiste solo au sein de l’Ensemble Pygmalion et entretient une carrière internationale. Née à Perth en Australie, Georgia termine ses études musicales à l’Université de Western Australia et aussitôt après décide de se spécialiser dans l’étude des flûtes historiques au Conservatoire Royal de La Haye. Elle a obtenu le 1er prix et un Master du Conservatoire de la Haye dans la classe de Barthold Kuijken.

Georgia fait ses débuts européens en Octobre 2004 à l’occasion de l’ouverture du Festival RomaEuropa, avec un concerto pour flûte et orchestre d’Antonio Vivaldi au Palazzo Quirinale, devant un public averti et en direct à la radio. Depuis ce moment passionant Georgia s’est produite à travers l’Europe, l’Australie, l’Amérique du Nord et l’Asie, prenant part à des orchestres prestigieux, parmi lesquels figurent l’Ensemble Pygmalion, Ensemble Correspondances, Jupiter, l’Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, Arcangelo, Dunedin Consort et The English Concert. Elle travaille régulièrement avec des autres ensembles en Allemagne, en Pologne, en Islande et en Australie. Elle s’est produite dans de nombreux grands festivals européens comme le Festival lyrique d’Aix-en-Provence où elle a joué un rôle sur scène dans la production de Simon McBurney de La Flûte Enchantée de Mozart avec l’Ensemble Pygmalion en 2018.

Georgia est également active en tant que chambriste: en récital au Carnegie Hall de New York, au Bijloke de Gand, au Wigmore Hall de Londres, au Concertgebouw d’Amsterdam, au Philharmonie de Berlin, au Holywell Room d’Oxford aux côtés de collègues comme Kristian Bezuidenhout, Isabelle Faust, Thomas Dunford, Jonathan Cohen, Sophie Gent et Jonathan Manson.

Pédagogue enthousiaste, Georgia a enseigné la flûte ancienne au Conservatoire Royale d’Ecosse, à l’Université de Southampton, à l’Université de Birmingham et donne des masterclasses dans de nombreux conservatoires internationaux.
